Vertical 01 · Utilities & Coal Combustion Residuals

Coal ash is a compliance cost. We make it a revenue stream.

U.S. utilities manage more than a billion tons of ponded and landfilled coal combustion residuals (CCR), with federally mandated closure programs that can run into the billions of dollars per company. Every ton ARM processes is a ton that doesn't need to be capped, hauled, or monitored — and a ton converted into salable products.

From ponded CCR, ARM's process produces ferric chloride — a water-treatment coagulant utilities already purchase for ash pond water treatment, creating a closed-loop use case — plus high-purity alumina, a pozzolan validated for cement applications, and concentrated rare earth oxides.

This is ARM's most mature application: developed through an industry-sponsored feasibility study, bench-scale, pilot-scale (EPRI Phase 2A), and demonstration-scale (EPRI Phase 2B) programs, with published EPRI technical reports documenting results, and continuing under a 2025 Alabama Research and Development Enhancement Fund award.

Vertical 02 · Post-Consumer & Post-Industrial E-Waste

The urban mine is real. We built the refinery for it.

Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream in the developed world, and it reaches ARM in two forms. Post-consumer e-waste — retired information and communications technology (ICT) equipment: servers, storage arrays, network and telecom hardware, circuit boards, and consumer devices. And post-industrial e-waste — manufacturing residues and processing tailings, including the solar panel tailings left behind when photovoltaic modules are recycled.

Both carry critical minerals at concentrations that rival or exceed mined ore: copper in boards and wiring, gallium and indium in semiconductors and displays, tantalum in capacitors, silver in contacts, and neodymium, praseodymium, and dysprosium in the magnets inside every drive and cooling fan. Most of it is exported or landfilled.

The data center buildout is accelerating the problem. Hardware refresh cycles measured in a handful of years mean retired equipment is accumulating faster than domestic capacity to process it — and the materials locked inside are precisely the ones the United States imports from strategic competitors.

ARM has extended its platform to these feedstocks. Once shredded and pre-concentrated, e-waste enters the process as a chloride solution like any other input — and downstream of digestion, ARM's separation train is feedstock-agnostic. The same continuous ion exchange and chromatography that recover rare earths from coal ash separate them from drive magnets.

The same chemistry extends to adjacent post-industrial streams, including electric arc furnace dust from steelmaking. This is the subject of ARM's 2026 Alabama Research and Development Enhancement Fund award and an ARM-owned patent-pending process.

Vertical 03 · Mining & Defense

Critical minerals for national security — from tailings we already have.

Rare earth elements and gallium sit at the center of the defense supply chain — in precision-guided munitions, radar, electric propulsion, and secure communications — and their processing is overwhelmingly controlled by strategic competitors. Rebuilding domestic capacity by conventional means requires enormous plants, decade-long timelines, and environmental tradeoffs communities won't accept.

ARM is a member of the Defense Industrial Base Consortium (DIBC) — the Other Transaction Agreement vehicle established by the Department of War's Warfighting, Investments, Resourcing, and Execution (WIRE) office to give small and non-traditional companies a direct path into defense supply chains. Membership places ARM alongside the nation's leading critical minerals producers and provides direct access to solicitations for the materials its platform makes. Recent DIBC-managed awards have funded domestic gallium and scandium supply and expanded germanium refining capacity.

ARM offers a different route to that capacity: modular processing units deployed at existing, permitted mine sites, recovering rare earths and co-products directly from tailings and by-product streams. No new mine. No foreign processing. Deployment measured in months.
